Hi All.

Through my loupe, I detected some sort of anamoly in bay 6 on the reverse of this 1973p. Abe looked "funny". At first glance under the scope, I thought I found an unmistakable DDR. I snapped some shots and began this post and since I already started it, I decided to leave it in this category. When I looked at the view of the obverse (Obv 1), I was shocked to see no sign of the doubling at all. So, after reviewing the coin under the scope for a second time, I found that the lighting I used in pic 1 (standard overhead light that came with the scope) must have created an optical illusion. As you can see by looking at pic 2, there is not the doubling that I had seen originally. (After I applied some different lighting to the subject.)

Pictures only SOMETIMES are worth a 1000 words.

Lighting if not perfect will always give you the appearane of doubling. I am still trying to get rid of reflections on my images. Thanks for sharing this very important point.

I'm going to start experimenting with a series of (3) neutral density filters that are supposed to reduce unwanted glare while letting the same amount of light into your camara. I'm afraid it will be a painstaking endeavor as, in order to arrive at the right formula for one's set-up (and everyone's set-up is a little different), I'll have to play with the apperture and f-stop settings until I find the ones that work best for me.

Glare. reflection, and excess contrast are a bother.

Thanks for the reply.

That is a very valid point. You should always rotate the coin, or change the lighting a bit to verify anomalies. Sometimes, they will only show up under a certain lighting angle. Good job!
