View Full Version : 1992 D lincoln cent with close AM
We found a 1992D Lincoln Cent with Close AM. It is a MS65. We took it to our local coin store to get it appraised. He said it was so rare, he did not know what to appraise it for. Only 10 coins have been found. .Can you help with the value of this coin? Also, do you know what the demand for the coin is? I appreciate your help.
Those are very rare. Very nice find. If it is MS65 it is worth around $3000.
Can you show us some pictures?
Are you planning on selling it?
This is a demand for this coin.
Yes, I will send a picture. It will take a few minutes to take the picture and send it. We were so excited and that is why we took it directly to our local coin shop. Yes we may sell it. It will depend on what the offer is.
Did you get the pictures? our camera isn't very good but the coin is very new looking and shinny. Lynn

Is someone going to post the pics for her?
Here are the pictures. The coin has some spots on and would probably not grade MS 65. Whatever you do Lynn, do not clean it!!! That will reduce the price to half the value. The coin is still worth a lot of $$$.
What do you think it would be graded? should I send it in for official grading? I have not cleaned it.
Does anyone know where I would go If I did want to sell the coin. How would I go about it to get a fair price?

I can't tell from the pictures much about the grade but related to your second question

sending it to be graded is your best bet to get a fair price as (generally) you'll get more attention from prospective buyers if it has been authenticated by a major grading company.
Thanks for your input. I wasn't sure which place I should send it. Is one place better than the other?
PCGS is best. NGC is 2nd. ANACS is third. ANACS is also the cheapest to send it to. If you know an authorized PCGS or NGC dealer, you could do that as well. You will have to read about it on their websites. Once you get it certified, Ebay is your best bet.

very nice coin
I will be sending the penny to PCGS. When I get it back, I will probably try to sell it on ebay unless I get an offer before I post it. If anyone is interested let me know.

lynn - just curious where your location is where you found your 92D close AM compared to Shing's hot location
i'm lucky if i see a "D" penny living in central NY especially a 92D
We just got back from vacation going to Tucson, AZ. I found it in change. No telling where it came from. what is Shing's hot location? I didn't see where he had mentioned.

I'm in AL. Does the 92 you found have a die marker extending down from the bottom of the O in IGWT?

Great find Lynn. That "change" you found paid for your vacation. That is a four figure coin for sure. Very nice find. Please let us know what grage PCGS assigns to it. We are all curious. You should know that it will most likely be a month or so before you get the coin back from them so don't spend all that money just yet.
Congrats on your find Lynn! It beginning to appear more and more of these are being found.
Now my question is: Where is that 92 P-mint Close AM??? Only the one so far??? All this time and I know a lot of people looking for that one too, and nobody has at least found another specimen? Something not adding up.
You ask if I have a die marker extending down from the bottom of the O in IGWT. No, not that I can see.
Thanks for the info David. Guess I'll have to wait a while to find out.

That's what I was thinking. Something doesn't sound right. Has anyone seen this 92P Close AM? I asked Jaime, he said it was legit.
