I would like to tell you about getting pennies from the Banks where i live. You all know that when you go into the bank and you ask the teller if you could get $25.00 in pennies they usally say we have to see what we have, and if they have them they will sell them to you. Well the area i live in they are rude and they are LAZY!!!!, i would ask the teller about getting pennies and she makes it like the BIGGEST chore there is to do.

And i also get are you a MEMBER here?. and when i say NO!!! they tell me that they cannot get me pennies at all. Now this is my BIGGEST complaint about the banks around my area. I was wanting to know if any of you get this are is it just me?. See a lady at the bank told me it should not matter if you are a MEMBER there are NOT!!!, you are just getting $25.00 in pennies and she also said that is pure LAZZINESS on there part.

I would like feedback on this to see what you all think, i do get pennies from 5 banks but i have to travel a great distance to these banks because of what they do to me.

Thank you,

well Penny Man roll searching is never easy

if some banks give you a hard just move on but i can see the point if your not a member at a certain bank- they wont give them out

i'm guessing your looking for armor truck bank box wrapped rolls in the red color bricks - i thought i read on this topic a couple years ago that nothin is free. The banks give them out for $25 but get charged a fee for ordering them from a armor truck service. The armor truck service has to make money also so collecting, rolling, wrapping, boxes, moving, trucks and employees all cost money. So like my bank does this to make me happy but i dont go over board just a few boxes at a time. Weight is also a big issue for the bank tellers- just to heavy for some especially if its more than 1 box.

i know some banks like to keep pennies & other coins on hand for store customers and dont want roll searchers taking them all in one swipe.

so what i do is have the my bank order them for me - it sometimes takes a week or more depending on the way they are ordered - like today I'm gonna order the next dollar coin President John Quincy Adams box and maybe 2 penny boxes depending the tellers mood.

here is the same type of topic on PCGS yesterday (i'd like FLBuffalohunter comment he always has good ones)

hope this helps but everyone does it different

what city do you live in - M&T bank and Citizens Bank are good for me in my area- maybe others can give you pointers on other banks in your area
good luck Snowman

I've had that happen once or twice. Do you live in an area with many banks? If so, I suggest you go to one and ask about opening a new checking account (pick a bank where they have a free one with no minimum balance) and before you open the account, tell them that one of the things you're looking for in a bank is being able to pick up $100 or $150 a week in pennies- can they order that for you? If they can, is there any charge? If not, open the account and keep (at least) a small balance there.

It's been my experience that banks are constantly looking for new customers and if you are up front with what you'll be asking from them, there are no problems.

I picked up a box yesterday at the third bank I went to. The first two told me the story that they are not allowed to exchange money unless I had an account at their bank. This was in a town that I was visiting.
The bank I did get them at didn't ask if I had an account and said they could not get into the vault for about an hour but gathered the rolls from the different teller booths. Seems they went out of their way to please.

I live in northeastern Pa. and we have M&T banks here and susquahana banks here and Omega banks. I get them mainly from the Omega bank and they never give me an hard time. Also we have the Woodforest bank in the Walmart super center.

I am sure policy regarding this will vary from bank to bank. You will always find someone will go out of their way for customers and others will snub you.

Here in CT there are at least 100 banks within a 25 mile radius. Once in a while, I make a sweep but most of the time I hit the ten or so closest ones.

I search about $10.00 per day. I always ask for ten dollars of customer rolled pennies. Most of the time they are glad to get rid of them as long as they have more than they need, because then they don't have to check the rolls. I'm happy because I like surprises in the rolls, like foriegn coins etc. (Once I got a penny roll with 23 dimes in it).

A few banks won't take coin from non customers and fewer still won't sell to non customers. It doesn't take long to know which banks are good.

I'm always polite and thankful, especially when they go out of their way. Try not to hit them when there are long lines or at lunch time. I also try to bring coins to different banks than I get them. No sense rubbing their nose in it and giving them the feeling that I'm making them work for nothing.

My own bank has a free coin counting machine in several branches. I try not to hit any one branch all the time, and I never buy pennies from them.

Meanwhile, Good luck and happy hunting.

When I go into banks, they always ask if I need pennies. If they don't have any, they call all the other banks, and if they don't have any, they call their friends!!!........yea, RIGHT....

....OKAY, so they DON'T like us asking for pennies, I now carry boxes of replacement rolls so they cannot say no because they might run out. Can a brother get a break? Imagine if it were big money, like 100 times that!!!
A whole DOLLAR!.:LOL_Hair:

I shop in 3 states (NC, GA, TN) because I live on the border. Most of the time me and my daughter (who lives in GA) try to ask the bank teller or supervisor that I would like 5,000 pennies or more at a time.
We ask for the clear plastic bank bags that are filled and sealed by the bank to return to the armored car companies of the Fed Reserve bank to be rolled and that way I do not run into any problems. We also ask them for empty penny boxes to put them in after searching and rolling them. At times they will ask me if I want bags or boxes. I do find rude tellers, however I overlook this and go to the next bank and don't return to that one.

Some of the banks down here have a problem with giving me pennies, but most of them have my number and call me when they et a bunch in. They know if I find anything like a 99 wide or 92D close, they all get lunch. LOL

It also doesn't hurt to have friends or family all over the country. I just received 2 boxes from my Brother in Massachusetts, and 2 boxes from a friend in Michigan. If they are willing to go to their bank and pick them up for you, it is great, especially if you are finding that certain varieties/errors are showing up in a certain part of the country.

Pennyman,
I gave up trying to get boxes of cents from my bank.
We are in a small town, three banks, and the other two don't really want to talk with you unless you are a customer. Because of bad experiences with large corporate type banks I will not open accounts with these two for the single purpose of getting pennies.
We are 30+ miles from the next large town in both directions. And the coin dealer in the town south of here does not sell bulk Lincolns. Figuring in the gas that it would cost to drive either direction, it is more prudent to order the coins from an online dealer.
Just a thought or two.

I just got one of those plastic bags for the first time and i found great coins out of it.

I picked up a bag for the first time last week, I always get boxes. Out of this bag so far Ive found 1- 1988 DDO 2- 1985 DDO a bunch of trail dies, 2- 2006 extra knees. IM going to try bank bags for a few weeks and see what I get. The tellers at the bank seemed happy to get rid of them, they don't have to move them into the vault.

i can totally relate to this. i had to open a business account to be able to get boxes of pennies. but it was okay because it was free and now i don't have to wait in long lines. some branches make me call in to order it. you just have to find a branch that will give you the service you need.
