Aha, I have one of these in my reject album (but interesting keeper nonetheless). De-bunked DDO - die gouge? I bet it doesn't get over $5.00 because there's very little reference material on it.

I might bid on this, nothing over $5 or so. I keep meaning to write an article on this even though it was debunked...where was it debunked BTW? I do not recall anything in errorscope, was it somewhere else?

BJ debunked it - January 1, 2010, I posted one on LCR and he attached some reference material on the controversial coin, I think it was from Error Scope?

Sometimes, just the history of coins like this one makes it worth owning. I have a few that I found when it was thought to be a variety of some sort. IMHO, even though it has been debunked, I believe it is worth having in your collection if you don't have one already.

I agree, Bob, but I think I'll try and cherrypick it from a roll.

Interesting. It went for $8.08 plus $4.00 shipping. I wonder what it would have sold for if the seller knew, and/or disclosed it's an old controversial DDO, now known as a die chip error, not DDO.

Kevin,

Your 1960 is doing well. :)

Yes, There appears to be alot of watchers/interest for not only the 1960 lg/sm date but the 1970 sm date proof too. We'll see if the watchers turn into bidders and how well they really do. Coincidentally, the seller of this 1956-D "DDO" is also the high/opening bidder on the 1967 SMS Qtr DDO I'm selling in an auction that concludes tomorrow night. Small world.

:) It is a small world. Interest's seem to venture to demand. Good luck.

The '60 Class III proofs have not been typically sell much past $200 if that. I have seen several in PCGS slabs go around $130-150 - that's well below were they were two years ago. Of course I hope it does better and I wish you luck.

I'm sure the '70 SD will at least clear $50 and go somewhere between $65 and 100.

I am acquainted with the seller of the '56D and he is a good guy and I do not believe he is aware that it has been delisted by Wiles. Do not forget that both Billy and Wexler both have it kept in their files as a MPD.

Jason, Thanks for telling me Wexler and Billy have the 1956D listed in their files! I had never thought to cross reference the coin, but I will now. Glad I kept mine!
