I thought this to be a die break because it is substantially raised metal. I give you the following quote from vamworld.com
"In this example, you can clearly see the difference between a die crack and a die break. Notice the bottom right side of the 6th right star on this 1921-P Morgan dollar. There is clearly an area where metal has broken away from the die and it causes a lump on the coin as it is minted. If you follow the die break further south, it turns into a line. However, notice the thickness differential from the die crack. Seeing them side by side should help you identify what type of things you're looking for. The example coin used is a 1921-P VAM-3X (http://vamworld.com/1921-P+VAM-3X)."
The picture is from vamworld.com also, and here is the link.

Aisha there is some very good material on that link, and everyone can always learn something from people who are willing to teach. I am not trying to be arrogant here, just trying to show why I think this is a break and not a crack.

To be frank, I think the whole VAM world overestimates things. I also believe their terminology is incorrect. And I'm not trying to be arrogant. I'm not trying to say I am better than the guys who wrote that on VAM world. I'm simply saying I learned something different.

I looked up the link and read it, and they got the idea right but I think they got the application wrong.

The thing they label as a die crack is a die crack.

The blob on the star is really a die chip as it is too small to be called a break.

The other line they consider part of the die break is a stronger die crack that cracked wider. It might even be a bi-level die crack, but I can't tell from the photo.

But then, I may be wrong. I consider it good that you are researching coin anomalies and welcome it, although I may be rather afraid to reply at times. Researching is all how you learn.

I agree with VAM world on this one. I know allot of collectors there and they are very particular of there callings. There are some very knowledgeable people there. I must say they are in a class by them self.
