Not that I can afford either.

I wouldn't buy either...even if they still were considered doubled dies. The price range they list is certainly waaaaay over the top and in my humble opinion shouldn't warrant 5% of what they are quoting.

Wow! That's an expensive list price! I agree with Bob.

I would hasten to say that they are overpriced and I do not see eye appeal on these coins. I am sure that you could certainly buy better quality coins with the money or
try to find better quality if you needed this coin to fill a slot in your collection.

Who doesn't consider them doubled dies???
This die has been debunked by all the leading specialists except the Cherrypickers' Guide as die abrasion. Neither Coppercoins, nor CONECA, Crawford, or Wexler accept it. Since Ken Potter is going to be the new editor of the CPG, it may be that it might be taken out of there as well. More information about this die can be found on Wexler's site here down near the bottom: http://www.doubleddie.com/144864.html

Maybe I am missing something. 1971 DDO 1 FS-101 has not been debunked!

It is a great doubled die!!!!
The reason for my post is that the same seller is selling the same coin for $1000 more.

Brad:
I am confused also - the 1971-1do-001 is a GREAT Doubled Die - I have been offered $400 for mine. I dont understand. It seems that ms63+ the coin starts to climb fast. We are grateful for ours - we sold a couple of raw xf-au's for $100.00 apiece early last year.

Ah! I see why you are confused! You think this is 1DO-001, when it is not. This is the die showing doubling of the RTY north of the primary and on the 19 north of the primary and on the vest. Read the description given by the seller:
Quote:
"1971 1c PCGS MS64 RD (Doubled Die Obverse) DDO. Doubling is evident at the top of the RTY of LIBERTY and the 97 of the date. CONECA (among others) no longer consider this a DDO but rather die fatigue or some other aberration."
Of course, 1DO-001 is a very legitimate doubled die variety, class II, and very desirable. 1-O-II was first found by John A. Wexler when he entered the hobby.

Of course I am late in replying (as usual) but, The guy makes reference in both auction's narratives of FS-01-102 as far as the areas of doubling. (RTY of LIBERTY and 97 of date) This is what is confusing here. FS-101 is not debunked, but FS-102 has been. I can not zoom in enough to see which ones are in the slab...no matter what the label says.
I guess my point of this being the same coin, same holder, same grade, same seller for two different prices was lost is the confusion of which ddo this really is. I think they are both ddo 1 and the listing is wrong...but I am not going to risk $1500 to find out.

I'm thinking that one is the die abrasion and the other is DDO 1 now that i see the conflict between the descriptions/DDOs. I think this is why the price is different.
But either way, this is way too much for either of these dies.

Theres no way to tell what DDO either coin is by the pictures. In the description he doesnt describe DDO-001. The label on the higher priced coin says it but without better pix theres no way of knowing until you waste the money on it.
It need better closer pictures to be trying to sell for that price
