I read Jeff Ylitalo's Errorscope article last night titled "Indents & Partial Broackages Associated with Misalighned Dies", and, it perked my interest on this 1992-D 5c found in roll....just wanted to put this out there, and see what you think....the "double" rim on reverse confuses me.... obverse looks similar to the Mexican 1 Pesos last pic in the article. There also appears to be smooth areas on the opposing side of the error, Blakesley effect. Defective planchet combined with an error of some sort?
Thanks

Very interesting. Remember, the only bad question is the question never asked. Good luck!

I lean toward it being damaged, but from these pics I wouldn't rule out it somehow being struck through something. I do not believe it is an indent as there is a definable rim that should have been flattened during the strike.
All that said, I am curious what other opinions there will be...

If this was hit with something, then wouldn't the rim be flattened out? The fact that it is intact baffles me, plus, the reverse has that odd double rim. I'm changing/adding a pic of the rim...it suggests pressure of some sorts, from what little I have seen of squeeze jobs...

I am sure leaning towards something other than an indent Cal. The 'double rim' is formed from the pressure applied to the coin from whatever hit it. As Jason explains, an indent would remove that portion of the rim. The pressures exerted from the strike would have definitely cause something more substantial. It's one of those ???? (wha happened), but I am also leaning towards damage.
