Um, Rock, that is the real deal. The 1992 CAM is very rare and that price isn't to drastic, as he simply wants offers on this rare coin.

Yes there are guys out there who would spend that kind of money but only for a higher graded coin.

That is insane for little people like me, but if you got the cash to spend and you are that serious about collecting, then what an awesome deal for them!

$25k? I doubt it. I think maybe $2.5K-5k tops - and I would be very afraid one day someone finds 10 BU examples in a bag and spoils that price. It is rare, but not $25k rare...

That is the first one I ever saw - we keep checking - I feel if we ever found one that it would be a d first. I guess they(mint) did not make a full run on them. I think that pcgs lists it so someone will buy it - people pay alot for classic cars too. Wow

I don't believe this...I see it, but just don't...

Well, those PCGS registry collectors seem to know no bounds,I'm skeptical too, but not surprised.

Why is anyone having a hard time with this coin and the price it sold for??
Last I heard, there was less than 8 92P CAMs known. IF there were only a dozen 1909S-VDBs known to exist, what do you think it would sell for? No, this CAM isn't a regular issue coin that's needed to complete a set, but it IS highly significant. AND extremely rare, not scarce, but absolutely RARE.
The Denver counterpart on the other hand, has a known population of over 3X as many coins. I sold one for a client that graded AU58 and was the finest brown example slabbed by PCGS. When it sold at auction, it far surpassed even my own expectations at $4100 (not counting the 15% buyer's premium of over $600!).
Another friend of mine in my own state found one (92-D CAM) in circulation. It was sold to a member of this forum for a respectable price. When that member parts with his example, they can be assured of a tidy profit.
When a person HAS to have what there is only one example available of, they pay the price they must. I seriously doubt that the 92P CAM would have fetched as high a price in a big auction- there may have been only ONE person willing or able to pay the $12K, but seller found his buyer. And more power to them!
It'll be beneficial for all of us to remember that the die varieties we deal with ARE RARE. In comparison to the mintage of "normal" coins for the year, each variety that we handle is one in thousands, or one in millions. As our specialized niche continues to grow and flourish, more people come into the E/V hobby. More 1935 Doubled Dies aren't produced. But the demand increases. And will continue to increase as each of us encourages and nurtures novices. Varieties aren't getting more common, but the variety collector is.
So, prepare to be amazed! This fall, you all will witness a 1951-D cent in VF/XF grade sell for over $5,000. Possibly waaayy over. This isn't superfluous chatter. I won't say more until the deal with the auction house is completed, but this will be a story every bit as amazing as the finest known 1992-P CAM.
