That's really sad Scoob- Do you have the energy and time to approach the guy? I'm sure you are familiar with the recent thread on the subject, AND you've got a heck of a lot more tact than I do! I'm vaguely familiar with the name. I think I bought something worthwhile from them some time back, yeah that' pretty vague.

If by "garbage" you mean heavily damaged, then I agree. If, however, you mean it's that not genuine, that's not correct. It's an authentic in-collar double strike.

I have to admit- I'm so conditioned by eBay, when looking at a listing with low quality scanner pics and not a lot of detail in it's description, it's easy to assume what it is or isn't. I looked closer, date is clearly visible on Lincoln's shoulder. When I saw the damage, I chalked the coin up to being a vice job, without looking closer.

Sad that there's so many garbage listings, that some decent ones get written off as not genuine.
Totally guilty, Right Here!

Geez. I'm guilty, too. That looked like a really bad vice job to me, too.

Maybe I'll go back to reading and not posting. Doh!

Hey Scooby...it looks like garbage to me too. I don't care if it's an error or not...I wouldn't buy it.
Speak your peace!

Please don't. A lot of us have done the same thing. If I'm "suspicious" of something then I'll use the word "suspicious". I've put my foot in my mouth so many times, I can't count so I tend to tread on light water and choose my words carefully especially in areas a bit unfamiliar to me. I'm not saying you are that way too, just asking you to not shy away from posting. I think i also recognize your avatar from CT and you really do have a lot to offer this community.

Never been on CT, so there must be a Scooby impersonator out there. I'm known as Scooby Due at CCF.

And don't worry, I'm used to being wrong - LOL! Gonna take a little more than this to keep me from posting.

THANK YOU ROCK! It's the lack of this type of encouragement that has driven many from other forums. This captures everything that makes LCR a family. I know Chris (Scooby), and I like him a lot. It WOULD be a loss if he didn't share his perspective. Facts are facts, everything else is perspective that others can learn from. I love this place.

oooooo! I got it Brad- LCR- "I love this place".....wait, didn't McDonald's already do something like that? Nevermind.

Actually, I meant CCF. I used to post a while back there and I occassionally check back to see if anything interesting is going on.

When I first looked at, my curiosity was aroused by seeing the date on Lincoln's shoulder. Not having the coin in hand my analysis lead me to either it was either made with a soft die or a legitimate double strike.

If Mike D. says it is a legitimate double strike, then I do believe him.

For those that did jump on this poor error coin, do not beat yourself up over an improper diagnostic. It happens to the best of us.

Vice magic would leave a mirror image. This is not a mirror image.

Here comes a question regarding mirror images...

Okay, we know that if you hammer two cents together, you get a mirror image, but...

If you take that mirror image and bash it (again) on a clean Lincoln (this time), wouldn't it make (what looks like) a double strike?

I think if it's done properly, it might work (clandestine as that sounds).

Maybe but I think that it would still leave some kind of marking that it was a hammer job. IMHO.

There would be corresponding marks left on the coin.

And Scooby, to be clear, I didn't know it was legit, I just couldn't see what was so obviously wrong.

take a look at the bidders list. ain't no rookies bidding on this monster.wouldn't a vice job leave the second impression reversed?
