Hello, I'm new to the site and would like to share something to get some comments, info..etc.
I have a 1991 lincoln cent that looks like part of a "9" got pulled off of another cent and was laminated onto this one before the copper coating was applied. The result looks like "1,991" on the date. Can someone tell me what the type of error is called?. Thanks!
Interesting error. My first guess would a die chip or a die gouge. It could be something more elaborate...

I was thinking on the line as a die chip, but the more i look at it, it could be a dropped number. Nice find.

Dropped letter or numbers do not protrude from the surface of the coin. Letters or numbers would be imprinted below the surface of the coin as they are indented into the surface of the coin. There is a term for this, however I do not have my references available right now. Incuse (SP) comes to mind for the terminology. Joe
It kinda look's like a gas bubble?
I vote for chipped die.

I'm going with bubble. Like 1sgret said dropped letters are not raised, they are just like any other struck through error.
Reminds me of the beer commercial. Tastes great. No! Less filling.
Gas Bubble. No, Die chip.:LOL_Hair:

I like your discription and will go either way as I cannot make a determination by the current photo. Still makes a nice conversation piece since the (Bubble/Die Gouge) is in an unusual place.

The extra leg is raised the same height as the date as far as I can tell.
It looks like we didn't get a consensus though. Its still pretty cool!
Thanks to all for the input!
