Something about this coin does not look right to me. Color, S and mm placement maybe.

I agree... It does not look like others I've seen posted... The lettering and date look to new in style I think is what the problem is!!!

the S is a little odd; anyone have a copy of ARLC 1 or 2 to compare MM location?

As best I can figure from his pictures, the "S" is correct for #2. Over reaching his pictures, but it looks like the dot after the "D" in VDB is correct and the N in united looks to be correct. My guess is that it is an authentic S VDB. However, with those pictures, it is more of a guess than would ever make me happy buying it uncertified.

The S still don't look right and the last 9 has a sharp fold, no curve at the top. Flat color. I'm not convicts.Has the same color of the fakes I have. My fake has somewhat all the marks as this one does.

There are 4 obverse dies for the 1909-S VDB with the mint mark in different locations: I have no close up of the MM on this coin to compare to Wexlers ARLC #1 and #2.
Alterations on the 1909-S VDB is the addition of the MM and the VDB to the reverse. IMO I would really be hesitant on this one unless he can provide a clear picture of the MM with the date.

I zoomed into 300% and noticed an error between the pics... The last 9 on the 2nd pic is chopped off at the bottom and is not chopped off on the other two... Very interesting because it is not the pic angles!!!

It does look strange. It give me that feeling of counterfeit. Why? Well, why would the letters appear so bold and the Lincoln head so weak? This is typically where the counterfeit coins lose detail in my experience. The bust should be much more detailed. The mintmark looks to be in correct position for #2. I'm not sure that the mintmark is the correct style or not, as it seems bigger than normal. I think is a Chinese cast counterfeit, and a very good one, beside the strange luster and weakness of the bust. I have been wrong before, but if this one were good, it should be in a slab because of its grade.
Edited to add: Also I would call your attention to the slight bulge above the U of United attached to the wheat ear. Is that on any of the genuine dies?
