Just found roll searching...a 1994 rotated reverse 165 degrees clockwise. Made my night. I'm going back to searching maybe this is the start of a lucky streak.:)

Is that the second one you have found?

This is an old thread. I've found six total. I still have three of them. One is in an ANACS holder in "my albums". Two I have in 2x2's. I've sold three of them with the average price being about $60/each.

Congrats on your 1994 rotated dies mint error finds! I came across one quite a while back out of a circulated roll. I sent it in to NGC and it came back MS-66/Red with the annotation of "Rotated Dies Mint Error" on the holder insert. It was almost 180 degree out or what would be called "Medal Alignment."

I have since seen another one that had the exact same die marker on the obverse (a die gouge at the upper right corner of the letter "D" of GOD). However, this second specimen was rotated about 165 degrees close to the same as you mentioned. Therefore, the culprit die had to be loose and freely rotating around to various degrees.

Generally, most use the term "rotated reverse" but actually we do not really know if it is the obverse or reverse that is the culprit die. So, the official term is "rotated dies" mint error.

Regards,
Billy

Thanks for the clarification. I had always thought the "rotated reverse" term was potentially inaccurate.

I think I remember seeing yours in an article in Numismatic News a few years back. That is when I started looking for them. I have found a handful since then. I have one that is almost exactly 180 degrees. That one has a permanent spot in my collection. Thanks for the inspiration.

Yes, you are correct -- it was published in NN. They are neat errors and if one is not paying attention can easily be overlooked. I recently came across a 1924 cent with 90 degree rotated dies.

I found a beauty of a 1983P that has a rotated reverse at 165 degrees. I was wondering how much it is worth it is a MS-63.

Seems like the ballpark is $50-$60.

A Tip Hunters: If you ever come across a LC collection in either a Dansco / Whitman folders with those see through pages.... Look at the front of the page then flip it over and look at the back. As long as the OBVs are fairly square , when you flip it over a rotated die will just Jump Out at you. I have come across many this way.

Great tip Wheat Cents! I have to remember that and thanks!

Here's one of the 1994 cents with rotated dies that I came across out of circulation. I sent this coin in to NGC for grading and encapsulation. Not bad for a coin out of circ.

This is the last call for bids. The auction will be ending soon. The current bid is just slightly over $15 (with Brad in the lead) with free shipping.
