when I go thru rolls trying to find an error or variety, I come across nicely preserved cents from 60-ties or 70-ties ... some of them are very sharp struck with letters standing strong and some of them wear beautiful, evenly distributed, brown "coat" ... I decided to collect them and store. For some reason they have more value for me than uncirculated coins from the same decade ...

FOR SOME REASON IT SEEMS TO ME THOSE 2 DECADES HOLD UP BETTER. ALOT OF THEM LOOK LIKE THEY WERE JUST RELEASED. 82 AND 83 ARE BAD YEARS, SEEMS MOST OF THEM ARE WORN BAD. I KEEP ALL MY PRE 82s FOR MY GRANDSONS.

this is exactly how I feel ... I believe in 1982 they change the metal ...
it must be the reason ...

Andy.

When I read your post, I immediately thought of this coin. I found it in pocket change a couple of weeks ago and decided to put it aside because it looked so appealing!

Edit: The hair detail is almost comparable to the early date Lincolns, although the beard detail could never compare to the Lincoln cents minted from '09 and '16. I believe there was a new master hub in '74.
