A friend of mine has a cent that was struck with a dime. He found it in 1984 which is the year of the coin, and put it up so it's in very good condition. It shows 1984 from the cent and the dime, and it's circumference equals that of a cent. I'm trying to get a picture of it. What do these usually sell for?

Depend on the collector. Check archived auctions

OK, I took some pics. I have to say that it's not a 1984 but a 1988.

The real question is, is it an RDV-006?!

Nice Dbl'd dated coin, rotation good and a nice coin overall.

Too bad it is not a RDV-006. (LOL) If it were I would make a serious offer.!!!!!!!!

What exactly is this error called, and how much is it worth?

Actually it is called a "wrong planchet error". It's worth would be determined by the collector. If it were encapsulated and graded the value would be higher.

Is it still a wrong planchet since it's already been struck once? I thought it was something like a "struck over" error.

Yes it is still a "Wrong Planchet Error"; however a grading company, dealer or individual would further define the error as "a coin struck on a previously struck coin" or in this case "A Lincoln 1C struck on a 10C struck planchet" or a" Lincoln struck on a dime" or (11 Cent Piece).

But all the descriptions still go back to the original error as a Wrong Planchet Error. A war of words by description and I Like" Lincoln struck on a Dime" myself.

As always the above prices are with buyers premium and also for graded coins. Price ranges will vary dramatically on PQ or if the coin is Head to Head or Head to Tail will make a difference also.

I don't know about the price brefos, but I would think that because you are getting two for the price of one, then it should be doubled.:D
