Is there any site explaining the whole minting process especially all those working hubs, master hubs, working dies and all the steps ... but with drawings ... I am having problems to picture all the phases of this process.
Regards,
Andy.
This link might help. http://www.vidly.net/video-how-its-made-coins.html

Also you might pick up the book "The Error Coin Encyclopedia" 4th ED by A. Margolis and F. Weinberg which has great detail for a desk reference. I believe their are almost 100 pages dedicated to the Minting process and die making process with pictures and diagrams. Joe

thanks, funny thing ... the post by CCC added to my confusion, lol
I didn't even expect to have SO many positive/negative steps ...
what I am looking for is to understand where in the whole process are these
numbered dies you are talking about and hub errors ...

I would love to have a section of my site dedicated to "how cents are made". If anyone wants to write an article about it, I would put it on the site...I'm serious. I just don't have the time write it myself right now.

Sorry about the confusion. The Dies are numbered by in association with a certain coin being found. The 1955 DD0 was the first one found so someone(I don't know who first started the # system) named it Die 1. and so on and so on. This applies to all coins with different number and lettering systems but Die 1 would hold true thruout everyone system.
The other question about the Hub Doubling: When you watched the video, you saw someone with a razor of some type, when the engraver was cleaning the Hub around the Letter's and number's, the hub wasn't cleaned up enough to get a clean crisp letter or number. Thus resulting in Hub-Doubling. That is my interpretation, perhaps someone else may have a better example of explanation.
Here is another video, this one was produced by the US Mint.

It would take alot of time to do an article to cover the whole process. However it would be great for the viewers of LCR. In the mean time ask away with questions and I am sure they can be answered. I don't think I could add to what David wrote, that's about as simple as you can get without being real technical. I still recommend the referenced book I posted about earlier to help you out.
