That coin sure is a beauty...I don't collect 3 cent pieces but this one is tempting :tongue:

If I remember correctly, when postage stamps decreased from 5 cents to 3 cents, the Gov't was attempting to control the amount of copper used for making coins due to the Civil War. Merchants wouldn't have to make change with 2 pennies or a two cent piece until folks started hoarding the silver trimes. Thus the 75% copper 3 cent piece was put into circulation after the Civil War.
