Hi:
This cent has a upside-down "Y" in 2nd column bay. What causes it and what is it called?
Cent is Brilliant Unc - nice for be around for 26 years!
Picture is a little blurry - but you can see it. - Very sharp.
Thanks

Nice early stage for a die clash. Caused by the two dies coming together without a planchet between them and leaving the clashes on the opposite dies. Nice Find Roger. Joe

Roger, great eye!
By the way, did you notice there are other letters between the columns?
I think I see an "A" in the bay to the right of your "Y", then another I cannot quite
make out. If this is correct then where could the letters have originated?
The Lincoln does not have any words with 'A' and 'Y' next to one another.
Just a thought.

Hi JeanK: The letters come from Liberty on the obverse. Maybe Steven will see this post. He has a nice overlay that shows how, what and where designs can be transfered to the opposite sides during a clashed dies.

What you see and think is an "A" is the leading edge of Lincoln's coat. If you look closely, this reverse has a double die clash.

Now BJ, I didn't even see that part.
Better get some stronger reading glasses soon. Some new little gray cells wouldn't hurt either.
Roger, it is a great coin! I just wanted to be sure you hadn't missed those extra goodies.
