Hello,

First time poster. I have found a 1947 D wheat cent that is very thin and wheighs 1.5 gram in stead of the normal 3.1 grams. There is very little rim, but there is a rim. The coi is about 1/3 as thick as a normal cent. None of the lettering is faded or 'acid washed' in appearence. It is struck 'normally' as both the front and back appear normal, however it is very thin and does not weigh what it should.

Is this from a thin blank? What is this kind or error called?

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Welcome Larry! I'm sorry I can't answer your question, but I'm sure someone else will chime in later to give you some insight. Is there a way you could post any pictures on here?
It must be the wrong planchet used. Is it a copper planchet?

Welcome to the LCR Forum Larry. We are glad you found us. In answer to your question we would prefer if you posted a picture of the coin under discussion. If you need help doing that let us know and someone will be here to assist. Your coin could be a thin planchet or be worn down by chemical reaction or because of years of circulation wear. Only a picture could determine the answer.
We await your post with images. Don't hesitate to ask many more questions.

Hi Larry- your coin could be a half a dozen things that I could spend pages describing, but a few photos can rule out the majority of posssibilities. Plenty of folks here would be happy to help, we've got a lot of very knowledgable members. Welcome to LCR!

Almost any question as to the cause of anything specific on any coin would require images before educated responses could be expected. Anyone could guess at the answer, but with good, well focused and well lit images there's at least some likelihood you would get the correct answer.
