an interesting lincoln i found pretty eye catching. i had a similar example i put on ebay and netted about a dollar i think, maybe two. but i remember it had like 80-100 views.

i think something happend this year and caused the premature use of the reverse die from 1989.

any ideas?

thanks,
Louis

Look's like someone had been playing around with a small shear with a small cutter. Does the obverse have the same marks as picture 4?

on the mint mark. thats what the marks on the reverse look like only smaller. if they were shears or cutters the marks on the obverse would be on lincoln's head.

to me it looks like a piece of the planchet broke off from where the fg is on the reverse and then the coin was struck and that piece was embedded into the mintmark. if thats at all possible. :LOL_Hair:

Based on the appearance of the gas bubble over the date and MM area, I would tend to believe that the anomalies on the rim just might be gas bubbles/corrosion that has eaten through the areas.
