I was looking for a D/D in a 1961 D roll someone gave me and found this coin. I thought nothing of it until I found five more with the same exact nitches. There is a nitche just below the bowtie, a second below the bust at about 5 O'clock and a third just east of 6 O'clock. Six in the same roll got me curious. If any one knows what I'm looking at, I'd appreciaitate any info. Thanks.

They look like die gouges. Lets see what others have to say. If you have more than one coin with the same features more than likely it is damage to the die.

Maybe as simple as gauges. Really there are a lot of possiblities that would create the angle that is below the bowtie. The "Y" in LIBERTY is one possibility and the other would be on the Lincoln Memorial on the back. Besides that, I haven't a guess.

Let Bob P. or BJ look at it or other Forum members.
I don't have an overlay to see if it is a die clash or not, however I don't think it is. They will be along later and proably leave there comments. Joe

I beleive these are gouges Jean. The one on the coat I would have thought might be something else until I saw the gouges under the bust as well.

A strong die gouge is created by having an area that chiseled away and thus will repeat as you noted above...
Good to get familiar with chips, cracks, scratches, cuds, and gouges. They aid in the identification of and distinguishing the difference between different working dies within LC Varieties
