I don't think it is inverted, I think it may be the serif type MM. Thought I would post it anyway. Thanks

That looks like the serif mint mark and not the ball serif (trumpet tail). If you look at your picture, notice that the bottom serif is slightly rounded. The ball serif (named for the top serif) or the trumpet tail (named for the bottom serif) has a squared shape bottom serif. A slight difference between the two (serif and ball serif), but one to keep in mind when one of the areas (like yours) is not full punched in.
