The only known specimen known to date from die#2 of the 1988 RDV-006 transitional variety is for sale on Ebay:

Patrick should have used some photos instead of just a link to the varietyvista site.

I sent a question to Patrick asking for a photo of the coin. He replied saying that at this time he has no way of posting a photo . He said that he would grade the coin as MS62RB.

Well,
18 hours to go on this one. If it doesn't sell and it will get at least the MS62 he may want get the grading and have some photos taken then run it again. I think that could make a big difference. Never know though may be a mad panic type step on each other bidding war the last minute or two. :tinysmile_hmm_t:

This could turn out ot be one of the steals of the decade. A true sleeper. The future is sooo bright for this coin with all it's got going for it. A reasonable starting price. A relatively high grade for a coin circulating twenty years. Scarcity, only six found since the varieties initial discovery more than six months ago. Increasing interest in not only the entire Lincoln series but specifically the amazing growth of the error/variety segment of numismatics of late. If/When this coin makes The Cherrypicker's Guide I can only guess where the value will go. If it subsequently gets added to the PCGS registry look out. The only thing this coin is lacking is a little publicity.

Who decides what goes in the Cherry Picker's guide, and can we inform him/her of this coin (if they don't already know)?

I would think that would be the authors Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton. If you can find some current contact information for them I would reccommend everyone sending them a short note describing the variety and suggesting that they may want to include it in their next edition.

At the last summer FUN coin show, I talked to J.T. Stanton quite a bit since he was right next to me in his assigned stall.

In his defense, J.T. is a busy person and has hundreds of variety and error coins to sift through for the next series of Cherrypickers. If I do see him at the winter FUN show, I'll mention these transitional coins, along with a few others, that may hold an interest to him.

A barrage of e-mails will not accomplish much.

does anyone know when the next Cherrypickets books is coming out or is planned for the cents and nickels - i see the last book's copyright was 2001 and is probably due for a new one

i orginally asked JT by email back in June if the 1988 is worthy to be put in the next cherrypickers but never got a definite answer. James W thought so with his email reply. its a good thing to ask again.(how about the squeaky wheel theory)

When I last talked to both J.T. Stanton and Bill Fivaz, they were hoping for a release date as early as the winter FUN show, however, the expected release date was pushed back to mid-summer. I may have some more clarification on just when if I am able to speak to either of these gentlemen at the up and coming FUN show.

Thanks in advance, BJ, for any help you can provide in popularizing these varieties. If you could speak to them in person that would be great. Let us know how it goes!

And Snowman, welcome to the forum.:)

1988 RDV-006 has been out there how long? Has it even been a year? Lots of varieties start out hot but many cool off quickly . So it pays to be aware of the new finds out there and search for it yourself. But drop $500 on a 1988 LC. Nope. Rather spend my time looking for BU 1943S DDO1s or 1946 S/Ds . You will find them and it is very rewarding...

It's funny that you mention 1943S DDO 1. That coin is listed in Cherrypickers, but not on Coppercoins.

It's just not there. How much do you think these are worth?

It is only from my own experience, perspective, or luck. But the 1943-S DDO1 was a tough one to cherry! Have only found one in my years of cherrypicking - an MS64. In that same time period have cherried several 46S/D vf-xf and two BUs - an MS63 and an MS65. Also quite a few 42s DDO1/RPM1s xf-au , three BUs - two in MS63 and one MS65. And look at those prices!

Billy Crawford listed the 1943-S DDO1 in his 2003 Die Variety book between $100-$150. But it would take quite a bit more than that for me to part with mine.

Did not notice it till you pointed it out, but C.D. has not yet listed the 1943-S DDO1 on his web. He does however list three other DDO's such as the 1943S-1DO-002, 1943S-1DO-004, and 1943S-1DO-005. Looks like there are "holes" in the numbering, so probably has not got around to posting it yet.

The 1943-S DDO1 is a much more dramatic looking DDO than those posted, and in my opinion a tough coin to find.

You should ask C.D. to post pictures of your coin...

BJ, just curious if you were able to get any updated information on the release of the next CPG while at FUN?

I just found this 1988 Cent.

I doubt it, but could this be RDV006?

Not 100%, but I think its a RDV005. But I hope I'm wrong!

I would agree, throw it back and keep looking. You're in the right place. Most of the reported finds of this variety have been from the northeast.

Thanks guys. Thats what I figured. It looked a little bit like 006 but I thinnk its just die wear or coin wear.

Oh well, back to the hunt.
