Anyone here collect Colonial-era pennies or halfpennies? I have a group of halfpennies (and one odd-ball that defies classification) that I believe are so-called "contemporary counterfeit" coins produced in America in the 18th century after British coinage.
Photos can be found at http://fearnoart.com/coppercoins
I'd love to hear anyone weigh in on the halfpennies or the odd-ball (#6).

On the "British" and "Irish" halfpennies the obverse and reverse orient properly on a vertical axis like modern US coins. The weirdo #6 is oriented on a horizontal axis.

Hi:
I believe they are british - check internet for sites.
I found a much later 1898 Half crown silver in the reject slot and sold for $25 the next day on ebay.
Thanks
Roger

I checked many sites, and they are closer to the so-called "contemporary counterfeits" produced illegally here in the mid 18th century when British coinage was in short supply and the crown had banned the colonies minting their own coins.
