hi everyone...first things first

i dropped on this site via someone linking it in a pcgs thread oneday

i found it surprising that nowhere is the 1964 sms trial pieces that never officially were released are mentioned at this site.

the treasury department doesn't seize them so they are part officially of this series

being a mere less then 25 were found and represent a mintage number i find them high in any series they represent as important varieties

anyone care to elaborate their feelings on the 1964 sms coins...please do

so far i have the dime but will add that lincoln...count on it

To be perfectly honest with you Teddy...I have been in the Lincoln Cent collecting business for over 40 years, and I had never heard of the 1964 SMS trial pieces until recently. It seems that more and more of them are beginning to hit the auction houses. I am sure that if Brad thinks it should be here, he will put it here. However, there is not a lot of verifiable info on it. Thanks for bringing it up, and welcome to the LCR Forum.

Welcome to the Forum. Am I correct in asking that the SMS series replaced the San Francisco MM? I thought SMS ran from 64-66. Thanks

Thank's Joe. It does consist of the Cent, Nickel, Dime Quarter and Half, correct. How does 64, 68, 69 come into play with this? I've seen these for sale so now I'm confused.

Yes those 3 sets did. See pg 335 of the 2009 Red Book for details.

I'm not sure about your question on the 64, 68, 69 sets. PM me.

for those who maybe unaware of the 1964 sms trial pieces here is the same article i sent brad...this should make a great read as only 2 articles exsist and david langes submitted one to coinworld just didn't feel right to send brad...http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article_view.chtml?artid=5334&universeid=313&type=1 (http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article_view.chtml?artid=5334&universeid=313&type=1)

i'm currently having my dime imaged with close-ups of the surface...a per se 1964 sms reasearch of the trial surface "for once and all" to clarify any future questions on if someone has one or not

thank you all for warm welcomes too and as much as i love coins that have a certain bang to them (matte proofs and the 1964 to 1967 sms series)

i should be right in tha mix here as nothing rocks like swapping $25. bank boxes of lincolns after looking for those treasures

i have my hopes in finding a 1992-d close am as my girlfriends 12 year old vies to beat me in such search

hey klocc
i mean i buy bank boxes...search them...then swap them in for new

banks surely can frown on this and finding a bank to work with you is becoming rare
