Can someone please tell me why this penny looks pitted ?

It's called "Orange Peel Texture" and is caused by a worn die. I wondered about this for several years until Mike Diamond explained it to me. They say this cannot be duplicated out of the Mint. (As if anyone would want to try). It still happens on Memorial Cents.
