I don't see much in the way of discussions or info about the 1983 Copper Cent's.. Are they worth anything? rare or common?

Rare? There's one on ebay right here (http://cgi.ebay.com/1983-BU-Pair-LINCOLN-CENTS-both-COPPER-BRASS-Coating_W0QQitemZ110209532592QQihZ001QQcategoryZ52 4QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

I guess that could be possible. I would be inclined to believe that it would be an environmental issue causing it to look brassy. I don't know how you can tell without the metal being tested especially only involving plating???????
I have found several that have a brassy look to them.

Ken Potter sells these so called "Brass Plate Strikes". Here is a coin from his site:

1983 "Brass Plated Strikes" 1c 1983 cents struck on "brass plated planchets" were confirmed by the Mint officials and that information published in Coin World's, May 23, 1983 Collector's Clearinghouse written by Marilyn Van Allen). These are very similar to the 1985-D "brass plated strikes" offered below but these seem to be of a plating composition closer to the type of brass known as Tombac (being almost iridescent yellowish-green rather than the solid yellow of th1985-D issue). MS64 RD $25, MS65 RD $35, MS66 RD $45.00

Both coins in that Ebay auction are still copper "plated" zinc. Shingpumps was referring to a 1983 cent made of pure copper.

When I first started collection, I was weighing 1974 cents. After about a month I learned that the aluminum ones would be a different color.

Did anyone ever try building the scale I have on my website. Cheap & Easy.

A 1983 cent on a copper planchet would weigh 3.1 grams instead of the normal 2.5 grams for a copper-plated zinc planchet. I do remember reading about one being found a couple years ago. Billy Crawford maybe?
