You can bet the reserve will be $750.00 or more. New CP Guide says this is worth $95.00 in MS-65.

Some of the prices are ridiculous.
I feel some are way too low for what the market is showing, dealers, auctions, E-bay and shows.
I received a standard (pat) answer to my complaint from Whitman. The publisher pointed fingers at the author's.
However the publisher wanted to know what I felt should have been included in the book on Lincoln cents.

I already pointed out in my e-mail what coins (2001-2007 nothing listed) were left out.

I did list 1992-P Close AM, 1998-S (Proof) Close AM, all of the 1988-P-D Transitionals. I also listed the 2004 -P & D that FS #'s had been assigned to already.

They wanted me to submit a list for consideration for the next update along with all my personal data to be included into the book if the coins were listed. Go Figure.
I wouldn't want my name associated with a reference of poor quality as this update.

Once the book arrives at Barnes & Noble I am going to go there with a pen and paper and make a list of things that caused me not to buy it. I plan on emailing Whitman too. I agree with all the coins that were left out, especially the ones that were assigned FS #'s. Is the 1956 D/S WDMM-001 listed? It was assigned FS-511.

Someone else researched the prices and put them in the new CP by the e-mail I got. Supposedly queries were sent out for guidance on pricing. Who Knows.

My copy is in the Little boy's room for extra reading time. (LOL)

That is another problem with a hard copy printed version; you can not update the prices unless it is in another printing. While Chuck Daughtrey has admitted that some of his prices on Coppercoins are behind date, they can easily be fixed with a simple delete and re-entry. Try that on a printed book. As I mentioned before, the free information site is the way to go, with the second alternate being the disc. We are just going to have to wait and see how this all turns out. BJ Neff

I totally agree with you BJ. The book is water under the bridge. Two excellent authors and researchers and something happened somewhere or somehow. I will set back and take the attitude "Wait and See". Thanks for the reminders how things come about when you publish reference guides. I appreciate it.

Looking forward to B.C. disk coming out. It takes alot of work and research to keep up with prices on varieties and errors.

Me too. I'm Very interested in the disk version from DVN. But better yet would be an on line version, constantly updated with a reasonable annual subscription based logon and password.

What do you guys think?

That is why I went that way with traildies.com. Information should be free and if you are out to make a profit from your work, do it in merchandise. But that is just my take on the subject.

For those authors, such as Billy Crawford and James Wiles, who are taking the chance of putting their work on a disc, I applaud their effort and hope for their success. It takes so much work to put reference material such as this together.

I am very well aware of the work that goes into research and identifying dies. The picture taking alone is mind bending. Traildies.com has 800 + dies, each with at least three pictures involved, which at the least involved 8 pictures taken, so right there we have 6,400 pictures taken, Then there is the wording, the identification of die markers, the filing and such. Unless you do an actual book or site you have no idea of the complexity of the work. Hopefully, the disc will be one of the best bets in the future for reference material if not the free or payed membership web site.

BJ, I have seen the Traildies site, and it is every superlative there is. I agree that we should share the information, but how to make money from it? How about this. There are times that we are at a show, and we have zero time to get online. So it would be neat to print a hardbound, just pick a moment in time, and have a pic of each major. You might sell it to folks who preorder, and include a section in the back to record new prices, allowing for 12 months, until the next hardbound with the new stuff, and 15 or so blank pages so we can print new pics from your site and add to the volume.
Portability, stays current, we update prices from our sources, whatever they are, in the pricing columns, and we keep it on us at shows. You could limit it to the majors, to keep it simple. Your site is so exhaustively cool, it seems like there oughta be a hardbound.

I thank you for your kind words "legend" and creating a top 50 or 100 trail dies is one of the goals in the future. As for a hard bound, that may be workable. I just have to see how the site and its anomalies are being excepted. Which so far seems to be excellent; near 6000 visitors and not even on the web for a half a year yet.

Thanks again for your suggestion.

I'm the guy from Alabama who found the 1992d close am penny. I found two 1998 wide am and one 2000 wide am, 1972 double die. I found all these coins from the same bank. I only searched through $120 worth of pennies to find them. I've sent my 1992d close am off to DGS to have it graded by Mike Ellis.

Are you ready for the big news! I've also found two more 1992d close am pennies. THIS IS REAL! I've been blessed. Someone brought rolled pennies to my bank for cash. I bought them from the bank.

I went to the bank today to buy more and all pennies have been sent back to the Federal Reserve.

I'm going to get PCGS to grade one of the other 1992d close am and I'm Thinking about giving the other away. I would like to give someone else the opportunity to find this coin. I don't know how I'm going to do this.

I thought I would set up a blog and have people send me a $5.00 donation to my church youth group and a two paragraph essay on why they would like to own this penny. I would get the Youth Pastor and staff to read the essays and pick the best.

I will keep an eye on my bank and see when someone else brings pennies to cash in. If they get anymore I will find a way to get some to you guys.

You are one lucky guy! I can't tell you how long and how hard I've searched for the 92 CAM....it's depressing. LOL

So this coin on eBay went down (BI'd) at $225 but missed the reserve. If I had the money right now I might have bid $250-300 on this but nothing higher in this condition. I wonder what the seller's reserve was? The last one I recall selling on eBay was around $750 (I think).

Wish I could find one; like everyone else I have searched to no avail. I have to say that jasonkn1 (http://www.lincolncentresource.net/forums/member.php?u=331) you are one lucky guy...

Just to see how much someone would spend.

A guy a DGS said AU-50 could sell around $2000 - $2500. MS-60 could go for $4000+.

If I had the extra money to layout a few grand for something I'd only do it with something I knew for certain was both coveted and limited in supply. I know this is super-rare now, but you never know, a bunch more could surface and that $4000 for a BU may never return...

A 1992-D Close "AM" on E-bay just last week graded AU-55 (ANACS) and is the one pictured on CONECA site went unsold (as far as I know as the auction ended) and the starting price was $750.00 or BIN at $1200.00. The economy is tough and brutal for sellers.
