I thought everyone would like to see this one. You can see what happens at the mint in strange ways:

Thanks for the link Joe. Simply amazing and mind-boggling find! This seller along with Fred W. have some of the most jaw-dropping mint errors. I always enjoy looking at this stuff.

Looks like an interesting seller but- I notice he's selling a clashed die as a dropped letter:

Yep, you're correct. He has that auction wrong, it is a die clash and not a dropped letter. Usually Al is much better than that. He goofed on that auction.

HI RICHARD:::::
:)This is dual dated, dual denomination, Dual Mints (Philly and Denver)
and the dates are 25 years apart. Is it worth $12,000.00(?) perhaps to a deep pocket error specialist who requires this example to make a complete collection. My judgment the coin is proably worth somewhere between $8,000 -$10,000.00 and I would love to have it for my collection.

Penny struck on a struck dime can go for about $450.00 UP TO $2,000.00 or more and depends on the grade, struck front to back or back to front, how many dates (single or dual dated) and orientation of the designs vs the struck design. Alot things enter into the coin.

Hi Billy:
You are correct about the stock of amazing errors that they sell and to go along with them is Jon Sullivan from TN and Rich Schemmer (SP) who are well known within the error collectors circle.

So what's the scoop Joe? Made him an offer he couldn't refuse?

I saw that posting of the clashed die yesterday and forgot to mention it.

No Offers, I'm waiting on the coin fairy to bring it to me when she brings me my new choppers. Sure would like to give it a new home.

All a mint employee has to do is toss a dime into the pile of planchets, then find it again after it is struck. This is the reason I stay away from Mint errors. I find it tough to believe that this was an accident...

Thought this might interest some members. I guess the 11cent coins are coming out of the safety deposit boxes. It doesn't have the 25 year span that the other did though.

Just to close out the 11cent post. The one that I posted a link to at ebay closed at $880. Not even close to the $12500 that the other one sold for but still not a bad return.

That's a really a good price for a buyer.

Also the $12,500 coin has a spread of 25 years on the Dime to the Penny and there are two (2) Different Mint Marks (P) and a (D).

Thanks for the update on the auction you posted.

Recently ECIE had a dual date Lincoln cent in their post and then there was the case of the 1972 Washington quarter struck on a silver planchet with an underlying strike visible. I am not to sure if they ever validated the quarter or not, but it was an interesting subject.

I would suspect that someone threw the dime into the cent planchet bin. It was later struck with a set of Lincoln cent dies and put into circulation.

Theoretically, this would not be an error since it may have been a deliberate act, however, since it may have happened accidentally:LOL_Hair: why not sell it as such!!!

I think it is a good price for something so unique.

:tinysmile_hmm_t:I agree with the two scenarios put FORTH on this thread and the listing and would say it is an "Assisted Error".

No determination of how it really happened can be proven. It is an interesting piece and not the only denomination known as BJ stated. There are also numerous dual dated pennies known and for sale.

This dual denomination and mint mark is remarkable and is unique as BJ stated.
