Dang, I was a bidder on this auction. But, got jammed up when it ended and didn't get a chance to place a higher bid. I though this DDO would have surely gone higher? Hmmm ... wondering now if I should change my values in upcoming Vol. II.

Maybe eBay had some internet connection trouble, and that messed up people's snipe bids?

HEY...HOW DO THINK I FEEL???????

I was shafted too...

Its my coin!!!!...Thought for sure it would of went higher..its a very nice MS coin!!

I got smacked in the face by eBay on ALL my auctions that ended today!!!

If I knew you were looking for one ,I would of just sold it to you instead of going thru eBay and the FEES!!!!

Is this the doubled ear that Billy just found not too long ago? If so, then possibly the market hasn't caught on yet. Just thinking out loud again.

The 2006 ddo 4's have been selling for less lately. But that is low.

I think AG is correct. Cause I tried to place a bid at the end but it wouldn't let me.

Bummer ....

Other than the problems with EBay, I think these things are being found in enough quantity now (especially here in Florida) to affect the pricing. We will be changing the prices on coppercoins as soon as I discuss it with Chuck.
Billy...I don't know what you have it listed for in your next book, but the price on this auction is still too low in my estimation. I did attribute an LDS specimen last week, so they are out there in some numbers. Also Billy, if you need one for your collection, send me a PM. I have a couple of duplicates.

Before we all start changing the prices on sites and books, we must take into consideration the economy. People are spooked at this time and the fun things like coin collecting are being shoved to the back burner. To be honest with you, this is not the time to sell, but to buy if you can.

The FUN show is the bell weather show for the year being the first large show in the USA. That show went much better than expected with attendance over 10,000. All the dealers that I talked to were surprised that they did that well !!!!!.

I am also surprise by that BJ. I would think that buyer's are sinking there money in US coins for a investment instead of the Stock Market. That is a good sign for the show's to come.

Bob, I have it valued (for the moment) in upcoming Vol. II for this DDO variety as: MS63 - $60 and MS65 - $125

Any word back on what happened with the new CPG missing listings and values?

Thanks for the offer, but I do have one in my collection (Stage a).

I think these things are being found in enough quantity now (especially here in Florida) ...They must be in a certain part of Florida. The boxes of $25 I and my daughter get in the Tampa/Clearwater area -- I have yet to come across one and they had plenty of '06s in them. Or I'm just wrong place/wrong time.

Billy

DVN.
If you suspect this auction was electronically "punked", simply re-list it citing the irregularities. All the bidders should have a chance, and I was one of those bidders. I bid until I was high man on the totem pole, and then ka-blam, it was gone in an instant. I would hate to think an organized effort to get coins from us at a lesser cost was afoot. Simply notifying EBAY of the bidder complaint (one bidder who was using the BEST bidding tool, snipe, was even countermanded) is sufficient. As with ANY auction or transaction, if you later find out it is worth substantially more than you listed and sold it for, you can cite these reasons to negate the sale. Your stuff is YOUR STUFF, don't let teams of fraudsters swipe it for a pittance, wherever they operate out of. That's what would be necessary to pull this electronic exploit off.

It's not my auction. I was one of the bidders on the auction. Jason would have to make that decision.

Jason can take a look at the bidders list and he will see that I placed a bid earlier in his auction (my ebay ID is: ddorpm). I was outbid about a day before the auction ended. Ebay did the usual e-mail outbid notification so I knew about it. I decided to place a bid with only a few seconds left in the auction but ebay never got the bid.

I totally agree with you BJ..I don't sell and I sure wouldn't at this time. I will buy if the price is right.

However the economy is so bad that people are out of work and need to pay the bills. It works two ways.

Yea DVN, Your bid was 2hrs 10mins before the end. Legend outbid you with 1hr 10mins left. The winning bidder got his in with 4 seconds left!!!

That why when I bid on anything. I put the HIGHEST amount im willing to pay for it, then let it do what it does. If I get outbid, THEN Ill think about go higher or not. Most of the time I dont

That's not correct. My first bid on your auction was on Jan-07-09 07:59:14 PST. Your auction ended on the 12th. About a day before your auction ended someone finally outbid me. I received the eBay outbid e-mail notification.

Then I placed a final bid at 10 seconds before your auction ended. But, it never took my bid. That bid was higher than what your auction hammer ended at.

Billy,
The prices you list seem to be pretty close to accurate. As far as what part of Florida they are in, well BJ gave me my first one, and I have found quite a few in brinks boxes from the local bank. I believe the boxes come out of Tallahassee. I also found one on a trip to southern Alabama, but I have heard of them coming up all over the southeast.

BJ... I am rather puzzled as to why you don't think I should change prices now. It really doesn't matter what the economy is doing does it? Our caveat states it is a guide, but I do track auction data and numbers of some coins, specifically this one and the other 2006 big DDO. Am I not doing our members an injustice by withholding this type of info? I am sure that ultimately supply and demand dictates the prices realized for certain coins...not my prices as listed on the site.
If now is indeed the time to buy, wouldn't a lower price warrant more buying?? It's either that, or I am missing the complete point of your post (over a week of jury duty can do that to you):squigglemouth:

Bob,

I wouldn't think that with the economy the way it is.....Gold prices Flucuates....Silver fluctuates....so a Lincoln Cent should stand solid regardless of the market. A Error or Variety regardless of the price that one should sell it at should stay the same. This Hobby is different than the Stock Market. My opinion.

I used to work at an auction house for six years and I can attest to the fact that one cannot try and asses the price of any given piece of property by one sale or even a couple of them. At any given auction, whether it is in person or online, there are far too many factors that can influence (one way or another) the final outcome.

Instead of trying to extrapolate meaning out of a few sales one could collect data over a period of months and average it out and look for trends on coins they are interested in buying or selling. I have 6 months (or so) of eBay data on 2006 1DO-017 but not the 1DO-018. In December I tracked a double ear that went for $103.56 BU and then another that was either EF or AU that went for only $20.50 the next day. I unfortunately haven’t tracked any other 1DO-018s to compare so my numbers are not all that big of a help.

I will also note that the auction and art markets have crashed. Christie’s and Sotheby’s are both beginning layoffs soon as a result. Much if what I see on eBay has been flat with only a few exceptions. I really wish I had kept accurate track of a few like 1983-DDR-001 which appears to me to be selling for about half of what they had been selling in the spring versus the 1955 DDO-002 that appears to be selling for higher in BU than I have seen on eBay this year. Overall my non scientific impression is that eBay coin sales have been flat. Good if you’re a buyer bad if you’re a seller.

That said I would assume that Bob and Billy are taking sales from many different sources to create their estimates. If that data says prices are moving down, they are going down, even if it is the bad economy. When things get better, hopefully they’ll go back up…
