This 198_ Lincoln is an unusual error.

The Lincoln has been struck 40% Off Center with Defective Plating.

The copper coating is flaking off and the underlying Zinc is showing on the Obverse and Reverse.

If I post other denominations about 1/2 way there. I still have a few more Lincoln's I can post. Then somewhere along the line I can post my RAW Coins and that's a different "TREASURE CHEST".:LOL_Hair:

Thanks Roger and if you get tired of seeing mine just holler or someone else post some of there collection.:)

One item I might add on this that it is a possibility that this coin was struck on an elliptical clipped planchet. If you look at the close up of the obverse you can see it is oblong shaped.

I'm wondering if it is actually defective plating, or if the off cener strike, and subsequent ejection may have caused most of the plating to look like this.

Yes; It is defective plating, In fact you can see partial plating where it never adhered to the coin in places and also where some of it is still coming off in the fields.

I wondered the same thing. When I saw it wasn't a Stretch Off Center Strike I knew then it was defective plating.
