Hi Everyone,
I already know the answer but I thought I would post this for others bidding on rolls. NO! It's not an S VDB and if you want to know why then just ask. I posted a question about reverse markers for authentic S VDB but haven't heard anything yet. I can tell from the obverse but still looking for indicators on the reverse... Any pointers?
Thanks,

Now golly gee Lestrrr... what makes you think someone wouldn't put a nice coin like that in a roll of coins and sell it cheap?

Be nice! I've always been a sucker for the jackpot roll. But wait, what makes you think it can't be an honest auction? Possible S VDB......

If someone on this forum was selling it, then I believe it is an honest auction.
If not, then some other words that I usually do not use come into play.........

I agree with you Jean. I've learned through purchases in the past but I still buy once in a while. Generally the wrapper will tell if it's old or not but I was curious about die markers on the reverse of the S VDB. I go by the MM Location on the obverse. By the way, the roll pictured above is currently at $300 with over 1 day remaining.
Thanks,

If it is only a 1909S then 300 is way too much for one in that condition.
I would wait until the seller could show both sides of the coin.

I hate looking at these rolls - they are almost always scams of one sort or another. The sellers always word it like, "They haven't been searched by me."
I'm guessing this is on eBay and I am also guessing that the seller knows fully well that it isn't an S VDB.
But JeanK is right, if it was being sold by someone from the LCR forums, it probably would be legit. But who on LCR forums could resist opening it up and finding out?

Hi Roger,
I know it's a 1909 S because the coin in the picture has 1909 S stamped on the obverse...sorry, bad joke :squigglemouth:. I'm saying it's not an S VDB because of the MM location. According to the pictures below the closest one would be die #4 but the MM is too high on this coin so, it shouldn't be the valuable one. Correct me if I'm wrong though...anyone please! What I don't know is the die markers on the reverse.
Thanks,
Lestrrr

Don't fall for that crap, there's no such thing as an unsearched roll unless you acquired it from someone you know that had a relative die or something. You honestly think someone would sell a roll with a potential $1000 coin in it without checking? ROFL These scammers are all over ebay with their rolls that have a VDB on one end and an Indian on the other.....yea....pleeeeeeeaaaase. LOL Nothing more than a roll of junk with maybe a couple OK seed coins planted in the middle to make you feel a little better about over-paying.

Hi Thad,
I wasn't going to buy the roll and yes there are sooo many auctions out there that show the good coins on the end. I've bought them before and actually still do just for fun. I just received two rolls yesterday that I bought off ebay for $20 each but of course never expect it to be the big one. I started this post for educational purposes (authentic 1909 S VDB diagnostics) I'm still trying to find reverse markers though. I've found information about the reverse determining whether or not it's a fake. Thanks for your input though.
