over on the PCGS forum there was a topic of roll searching and someone got a Brinks box of cents and they said it was all zinc - has anyone seen this in Brink boxes? :squigglemouth:

I ussually bet a very good mix of cents in the boxes I get from Brinks. Some wheaties, some foreign, little bit of everything. If someone got a box of all zinc that was probably just a fluke.
Just my opinion.:tinysmile_hmm_t2:

I usually get sealed N.F String & Son boxes fo rolls. I have been steadily averaging about 25%CU.
I found it interesting that the collectors forum thread mentioned the '92 transitionals but did not mention anything about searching for the 1988 transitional coins. I'm surprised you didn't speak up.

It would be beneficial to the gov. to keep the pre 82 cents. A gain of bout 125 percent profit or more.

OK, quick question...What is the general concensus...Is it more likely to find something from bank rolls or from rolls turned in by customers? I know it can be a crap shoot either way, but I am just interested in knowing which is your preferred method. I am going to get some more rolls tomorrow.

My bank rolls are from String and Sons Inc in Harrisburgh

Rolls from customers, specifically the nice old ladies who write all their details on the rolls.. :)

Thanks. I went to two of my bank's locations today and they only had 8 customer rolls between them...Getting slightly off topic, I haven't tried going to a bank I don't have an account with...Will they give you grief? I got a bunch of bank rolls to calm my addiction this week.

Some banks are a**holes about it. So i just get a savings account @ them all. Most of the time they are more than happy to get them out of there drawer so they won't have to carry them to the vault every day. Some of the banks i use even will give me a call if they get a good bit in.

I've actually found 2 or 3 99 wide am's and a 92d close am in Fed rolls. They just get me out of rythem having to tear them open.

Thanks and you sure are right about that. I am getting better, but I just went to CopperCoins for the first time and saw all of the different possible DDs and I know I had to have tossed some in the "return to bank" bucket that I should have held onto.

I'm in CT. Many banks in driving distance. I do about $10.00 a day. I always ask for cust. rolls. The number of dimes I find pays for the pennies I keep. Several branches of my bank have coin machines so I don't have to re-roll.

Most(not all) other banks are glad to get rid of them even if you don't have an acct. I try to use some banks to get rolls, other banks to dump. I even have a few tellers watching out for anything interesting for me, such as siver. The other day I got a beautiful BU 1964 Rosey dime for 10 cents.

Here's a theory about the all zinc box. I read in Coin World about a company that has a machine to separate the copper from zinc. Probably based on weight. They planned to recycle the copper, but the govt. won't make it legal.

I bet they are hoarding the copper till it is legal or are doing it anyway.

The boss was out of the office today and business was slow. I passed the time by searching some rolls I had with me "just in case". My most interesting find of the day was a 1984-S proof cent in remarkably good condition. If I were to assign a grade I would say PF-64. Not bad for a circulation find. Someone broke open a set that cost them $11 back in '84. They must have been really hard up for some small change.

I think typically, when an old geezer like me kicks the bucket, the grand kids don't know what to do with the proof sets.

I am only 5 rolls into a new box, but it looks like I may have gotten one of these too...Out of the 5 rolls, I had only one pre 1983 penny and it was a badly beaten up 1910...Kind of strange, but it does appear as if they are able to sort out pre 1983 pennies.

I'll update this post once I get through the box, but it will be the end of the week.
