i am relatively new to the world of coins, so i am frequently second-guessing myself as to whether or not something is a doubled die or if it is merely mechanical doubling...anyways, i got this one in some change after buying some coin folders. my question...what is it?

First things first: Welcome to the LCR Forum and have fun.
It looks to be Mechanical Doubling based on the "Shelf Like" appearance of the letters and numerals.

Hi Crocky,
That's a nice MDD. It is also a great teaching/referral tool to keep in your collection.
I have quite a few of these, even on proof Lincolns.
Good Luck!
Jean
