I think that's pretty cool.

That's awsome
Looks fishy to me. I don't think that was created at the mint. I can't see how that could have been a mint error, however I'm not sure how someone created that either. The rim is perfect.
If that's not photoshopped would that really be a serious MDD.

Your right about the rim. Too perfect.

If that is real and the rim is not damaged could only occur with a doubled die right? I mean it it was MMD it should be struck on the rim as well? Correct me if I'm wrong on that theory, but then to have it obverse and reverse.. Just seems way way odd.. But I may be talking from inexperience so I'll :crossedlips: now.

I'd like to hear an opinion from Wavysteps and/or James Wiles on this one.

3 hours to go. Already $250.00. I'd like to know how this could happen. Pat why don't you buy it and let us know what it is?

I am leaning toward this being real but the rim looks to have been spooned or rolled.
Maybe I'm just seeing things but the rim just doesn't look quite right to me.:squigglemouth:
Yeah the bottom part of the coin I figure your talking about.. It could have been spooned/rolled to give it a double die look knowing that MDD would have destroyed the rim.
I would really like to know what happenned to that coin myself. I would be shocked if it wasn't created post mint.

I think the bottom half was rolled to give the rim an undamaged look at first glance making you think it's a doubled die. But if it were a doubled die, wouldn't there have to be more than 1? Unless it's possible a DIE could be used to only strike 1 coin?
Of course, then mint could catch it and scrap them but this *1* leaks out.. But then looking at the RIM it's obvious from K3 to K9 it's rolled and K9 to K3 it's a mint produced rim.

I agree with Steven. It's a genuine double strike but the edge was rolled and squeezed after the strike to create a false rim. Sometimes this is accidental, as I sometimes come across recent off-center and double strikes with the same sort of effect. But it could have been intentional.

The rim is looks strange. Would like to see it at a 45 degree angle...
