Is this an error or just a deformed coin that has had some better days? It's a 1957 coin.

Hi Jonathan,

The pictures are a little dark especially in the affected area so I lightened your pic and I see that the rim (on the obverse) is still intact but with some major hits (damage) to it. So this would be PMD "Post Mint Damage".

Thanks for sharing and asking,
Lestrrr

Is that valuable any? Are PMD's rare? Especially for an old coin?

Sorry about that. I'm having trouble with getting a picture close the the coin without my shadow in the way. I took the flash off because it looked terrible afterwards.

Nope, If anything it would depreciate the value since it is "damage". Taking pictures can be very tricky and just takes practice. High quality equipment helps but then your talking about spending a good chunk of change.

Happy Hunting,

PMD is Post Mint Damage. This coin is just smashed by something.

PLUS. You have to give it some time before wondering why nobody replied. I have things on here that STILL havent been replied to after weeks!!!

Hi Jonathan,
You did good by turning off the flash because all it will do is over expose the picture and you wind up with 'white out'... <--my term.
You might try two indirect light sources to help illuminate the coin.
I find that each coin shot requires different lighting and angles, so just keep trying.

Yeah i noticed that. This is the one WITH a flash. What i did is i put the camera lens so close to t he penny that it blocked all the light from coming in and ruining it. Probably the best out of the bunch.http://www.lincolncentresource.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7849&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1236018505 (http://www.lincolncentresource.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7849&d=1236018505)
