I HAVE A 1953 Lincoln Cent with A Cud Error on the Reverse on a Wheat Stalk. Thanks for any help. Kris

That would not be considered a cud. A cud would have a die crack from a point on the rim to another point on the rim. That would be a retained cud. If it were a big blob from rim to rim, it would be a true cud. In other words, the rim needs to be involved. If the blob of metal is anywhere else, it is considered a die break or chip.

This would be called a die crack. It wouldn't be a cud until the crack extended to the rim again and that portion of the die falls out leaving a blank blob on the stamped coin. These are always cool, somewhat collectible.

Oops, Bob beat me to it

Call it a Die Crack with a Chip or Die Break.

Hi, is this coin rare?

Not really. If it were a semi/key date then there would be more interest (value).

These are actually rather common - not much of a premium value coin.
