Hi:
I am always amazed when you find a box with alot of wheats. I think I found one of those boxes that Joe posted last week. HF Strings@Sons #4994.

79 common wheats with one rpm and a couple of uncs. Our normal average is 16.

Still blows my mind on the amount of wheats still in circulation. Out total to date now exceed 14,000.

Thanks
Roger

I do think that the down turn in the economy is a cause for some wheat cents to start showing up. More than a few people are emptying their jars, draws, piggy banks and car ash trays to find enough money to pay bills.

We down in the southeast have a glut of change, especially pennies and that is one of the reasons why a box 0f 2009 Lincoln cent Log Cabins are going for such ridiculous amounts.

BJ I totally agree with you. I've never seen so many bags of pennies as they have at my bank now that are being turned back into the FED Bank in Atlanta. The head cashier said it has been going on for about a two months.

I have scads of them, and it really accelerated just b4 Christmas. And there are some quality pennies that have been in piggy banks for decades, so it is well worth it. I hope I have some wheat luck, that is awesome to read about and see, congrats.

Totally amazing benefit for Lincoln cent collectors!
My first customer rolled bank box a couple weeks ago resulted in four wheats and two Canadian pennies. The last customer rolled box was a complete disaster. Yesterday I picked up a Fed box from my bank. Yes, I said from my bank, the one who told me they never get Fed boxes. I have emptied all the rolls and have found four more wheats and two more Canadian pennies. It could get better as time goes by.

You do good on your boxes, just don't give up. I have increased my searching about two fold in the past week.

Hey Roger,
Actually so far, one each of: 44p, 44d, 52d, 55d, and two each of 58d.
It isn't that odd to not get s mints here. Funny how that is. Maybe in the next box.

Hello everyone. I am brand new to this site. I also just recently started getting into coins. About 2 months ago I started roll searching through boxes of pennies. In just two months I have accumulated about 2200 wheat pennies. My best find was just a week ago. I actually found a 1909 vdb in amazing condition! I was so amazed. I have found s's and some other semi key dates. I have a full roll of 1940-1958 p and d. Half a roll of 1934-1939. All others I have in rolls labeled pre-1940. Such a fun hobby... :)

Thank you very much. I have also ventured into searching dime boxes. I've only searched 3 boxes so far but got 4 silver dimes out of that. (2) 1954's (1) 1961 and another amazing find to me was a mercury dime already 1920! I'm getting very curious about all the lincoln varieties there are. Ive only been searching for wide am's basically. Out of about 200,000 pennies I have found 7 wide am's all of which are 2000 except one 1998. Anyone know the value of these in AU uncirculated conditions? Also how do you know about so many varieties? I am fairly fast at going through 4 boxes at a time. About 4-6 hours, but with all these new things I could be looking for I think i will need to get a magnifier or something now. Sorry for the long post, I know I'm a newbie, but a very excited one for this hobby as I see all of you are too. Thanks again! Brian

Yep Brian it is a good idea to get a nice magnifier.
10x to 16x will work for most searching. There are a lot of magnifiers out there that purport to be 10x-16x, but don't believe all of them. Instead, go to a coin supply website or store and purchase one from them. I have a couple Bausch and Lomb loupes, and a couple of H.E. Harris & Co., loupes, all being good quality products.

Then, check out the websites for error coins and varieties so you can learn more about what to look for. Here at LCR click on 'Lincoln Cent Resource Sites' tab and you will find helpful information.
Keep asking questions and posting pictures and enjoy yourself!

Thank you. Does anyone know why 1966 and 1971 pennies are worth 0.02? and 1968s-1974s pennies are worth 0.03? I save all the "s" pennies I come across but is there a point to keep the 1966 and 1971 pennies. Here is the chart of values I came across...http://coins.about.com/library/coin_values/bl_lincoln_memorial_penny_values.htm thank you...

H.F. Strings and Sons manufactures the paper wrappers that some companies, like the Brinks armored car company, use for the coins they collect and redistribute.

I was at a McDonalds drive thru and got 2 unc 64 dimes in my change. I noticed them right away and kindly asked the cashier if she would give me a dollar in dimes, which she did and gave me 7 more! They were fresh out of a mint roll that obviously some kid probably took from his parents due to hard times. But I wasnt complaining.
