What is the best way to preserve your collection? This breaks off in two directions:
1. I was thinking of holding on to all of my 95% copper cents? Is that realistic? I am just starting and right now I don't have that many. If I do, I was going to roll them by year...Does that make sense to do? I have a tendancy to be a pack rat...

2. For the real finds, what is the best way to store them? I saw a posting about some vinyl causing problems. I was thinking about going to the local coin shop and buying something or if anyone could recommend a site online, I'll go there.

I want to go ahead and start saving a good representation of each year and get going in that direction.

Thank again!

There is nothing wrong with storing all your copper cents in coin tubes. You are more likely to get a stiff neck from searching than any real profit from the copper value itself. It is a smart thing to do for varities. If a new variety is discovered, you can walk over to your organized stash and start looking.

As far as the "real finds" are concerned. I have three suggestions. The first is to send any coins worth $50 or more to ANACS. At $12 a coin it is not that expensive. Plus, when you go to sell, they will be more likely to sell. If the coins are in slabs they are very protected. The second option is to buy your own plastics slabs like PAT does. They are less than $2 a piece. Otherwise, I would use 2x2 cardboard flips. I like those best.

Has there been any problem with the long term storage in plastic flips?

I don't think so not with the newer flips, but the old 2x2's before the PVC thing..

Shing you need flips?! Geez.. Ask next time.. I have a CASE of flips from cents to $1.. I have NGC slab boxes as well and about 200 plastic coin safety rolls. The sqaure type roll with cap. I'd part with as well.:)

On another note. I just bought a small hoard today.. about 10 boxes of 2x2 flips of nothing but cents and an old mint bag of cents wheats and memorials. I'm tossing that stuff up on ebay though..

I just sold a 18lb bag of wheats for $59 on ebay, I could have sold it for alot more had I said unsearched.. I didn't search it, but I really don't know if it had been searched or not in the past..
