I was interested in seeing where some of you guys are and what kind of s mints are found there. It sounds like they are scarce in some areas. I am in the Puget Sound area of Washington and get piles of them in a $25 box. Including 74 s and 68 s which seam scarce.

Hey UglyCent,

Where I'm from I get a fair amount, about 1 per 1 or 2 rolls. The years range from 68'-73' mainly. I've only bought 1 box lately so I usually only search 1 roll a day. Oh ya...I'm in Black Diamond, Wa. So, Howdy from your neighbor :D

Only about four or five in 25 dollar boxes are found here, if that. Sorry I dangled a modifier. It is late.

Here in New York State - its rare to find to a "S" minted penny

i usually find less than 10 in a 25 dollar box. i havent found a 68S in over a year. :squigglemouth:

Example - i have been keeping track of 1974 pennies of because of Large Dates vs Small dates odds but the totals are

P - 1251 D - 237 S - 73

Hope this shows how tough to find a "S" penny here in the NYS

Im in Toledo Ohio and I get alot of 74S but not many others. A few 68S here and there and a random wheat S mint every now and then

Our town is about 100 miles north of San Francisco, and I do not find very many S mint cents in boxes or change. It is a curiosity.

Very few in north central pa. 1 or two memorials per box. 72 s being the hardest.

When we lived in San Bernardino, Cal pre 1996 S mints were pretty plentiful when I searched rolls, but here in Nashville the findings are much fewer.

Where I am, I find a roll of 68-74S's to approximately 10 bags of pennies.
I save them all as well as any 82P SDZ and SDC and 69P. It takes me close to a
year to find a roll of these P mints mentioned. Sometimes longer.

Hi:
I live in New Jersey and have found over the last year $25.00 in 1968-1974 "s" cents.
During those years - the mint distributed the majority of "s" cents to try to stop horading by collectors - it did not work.

Thanks for the great information, I was curious because some of the discussions I have read recently shows that s mints in some area are a special find, In the boxes I have gone through this month (4) I am finding about 5 rolls per box, many 72s's so that the low mintage didn't correspond with what I was finding.

Hey uglycent,
Here in La vergne,Tn(southeast of Nashville) i get between 12-20 s mints per box of lincolns. Mostly 68-s & 70-s with 71-s being the hardest.

I posted a reply to this, but it didn't get posted. I may try again? I save all the 68-74S's and it takes a long time to make up a roll. Like, maybe 8 bags of pennies to search. I also save all the 69P, 82P SDC and SDZ and they take much longer to get
a roll, over a year for those. Being in the center of the USA does produce many philly cents and other coins, but not that many. 2000P's are also rare.
