I'm new to searching for varieties but have found a few interesting things that I haven't been able to find any info on. So for your viewing pleasure is a 1953-D that I found last night. It looks like two different sized D's, is that possible?

Looks like it took a hit and damaged the MM.
And by the way welcome

Sup Spike.. Welcome..
It looks like a PMD MM (Post Mint Damage Mint Mark). Post Mint Damage of course is any damage rather intentional or unintentional after leaving the mint.
I attached a D/D 1953 for your reference.
Looks like a combination of die deterioration, and damage to me. It is odd looking.

Thanks for the replies. When I first saw it I thought damage but then it looked so much like two different sized D's that I thought I was wrong on that. Apparently not! It certainly explains why I couldn't find any info on such a beast.
I'm glad I found this forum, there is a lot to learn about varieties and a lot of it is very confusing!
