Looks like a Capped Die to me

The die cap errors in my 'Error Coin Encyclopedia' by Margolis and Weinberg, do not show a normal rim like this coin. I would expect the rim to form more of a shallow bowl appearance. Struck through grease would be my first guess. Other than that, I cannot find any other coin example in the book that compares with this 98P.

Hi:
I looked closer at the coin and there seems to be multiple images on the obverse as well a indents that align with the top and bottom of the reverse memorial building. I agree, that it is wierd that it has a strong rim on the obverse. It also may be a "D." I believe it is a coin that was struck on a existing die cap.
Maybe Joe or Bob or Billy will chime in.
Thanks

I would tend to say it is struck through a very heavy layer of grease Roger. I don't see a lot of evidence of a die cap, but I could be wrong.

Very cool Roger! I have no idea of the cause, if I had to guess I would say grease too. A lot of grease! Nice find!

By your photos I would say that a possiability it was struck thru a capped die. The photos are pretty light. If not then it was struck thru heavy grease.
I agree. Must be grease or a very very late die cap. It is nice that the date shows clear!

Brad:
I believe it is what you said - struck thru a late die cap - it looks alot like the other one i found a while back.
Thanks
