Is the 1944 S Lincoln with the Ball Serif mint mark more common than I had heard? I found these two examples today.

Jean: I believe the ball serif (MMS-006) is only scarce on the '46 and more common on the '44 and '45 Lincolns. That said, I am not sure how common...
MintyFresh: yours is a straight serif (MMS-005) '44.
I recently purchased both 1944-S varieties in AU, so I could get a clear view of the "S's". After observing, I looked at all my 44-S's, and about 1/3 have the ball serif. I'm not sure what to think. The ball serif is suppose to be the scarcer of the two. there is one thing for sure, 1/3 is scarcer than 2/3.

lol. Nice math...
I have read where it is the 46 that is rare. But all myths do get revealed with time.

Yes, I too have read the 44S ball serif is less common than the Straight Serifs. It has occurred to me that James Wiles would have ball serif listed on the varietyvista.com site as being rare if it really is.
