I have no clue on this one. Could it have been in a bezel? The railroad edge is complete, and the coin is no larger than normal.

That is one strange coin! The wheeled rim is so smooth it looks like original planchet - I wonder if it weighs out at the minted weight?

It was formerly encased in a ring with an advertising slogan or other message on it. It is not an error.
This coin was definately encased, its considered an altered coin. Look at the bright side, someone was at the store and a penny shy, good thing they had their lucky penny.

Thanks everyone, the flat edge makes it look as if it was pressed into a holder. I just thought i would check.
