View Full Version : Recommended Books and Guides
As a new massive collector of Lincoln's I was wondering what were some guides and books that are a must have of any Lincoln Cent collector. I already own the current redbook and the lincolncent big guide book.
These are the ones I use:
CherryPickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties (fourth edition - volume one)
A Quick Reference to the Top Lincoln Cent Die Varieties - out of print
The Complete Price Guide and Cross Reference Top Lincoln Mintmark Varieties - out of print
These are the ones I use:
CherryPickers'
I have a cherrypickers guide but it doesn't have cents in it, just like nickels and up..
If you search, you should find someone who sells the "half cents - nickels" version.
Does anybody have a copy of the "The Cherrypickers' Pocket Guide - The Top 150 Rare Die Varieties?"

Pat, what you have is volume two. You want volume one for cents.

I would highly reccommend The Coin Collectors Survival Manual by Scott Travers.

Looking Through Lincoln Cents by Charles D. Daughtrey is also very good. He is the owner of the coppercoins site.

That'll keep you busy. Probably won't hear much from you for awhile. You'll be having too much fun.
Does anyone have any info on the new Q. David Bowers' book on Lincoln Cents that is supposed to come out?

No, I don't, yet. I'm sure it's excellent. That's an e-book isn't it? Is it available in print?

Not a very big book.. It's like a mini version of the Complete Lincoln Cent book.. I'll have more details when I finish it..

I have a couple of questions when you are done with that book:
Are the 1992 P & D Close AM's discussed?
Is the 1998 S Close AM discussed?
Is the 1922 Weak D die 4 discussed?
What about 1956 D & S wdmm 1 and 1956 D/D/S omm 2?
Lastly, what about 1956 D/D rpm 16 and rpm 18?

Not very much
No and NO
No and No
It's basically like a pocket book on each coin with the whitman priceguide for each coin from G4 - MS70.
It has the story of Abe Lincoln, the mints, Frank G, VDB, etc..etc.. History type stuff.. The foreward was written by Daughtry of coppercoins.com which was kinda cool.
I'm not getting it.
LOL. I answered each of your questions in order. :)

Oh you mean the book I think?

Yep. The next book I buy will probably be the new Cherrypickers.

Yeah good call.. This book is pretty much the "Everything you wanted to know about Lincoln Cents, but we're afraid to ask" for the beginner collector. It talks about grading, pricing, buying from shows, what to look for, then each coin dated 1909 - 200X something or other I believe.
