Hi all, looking for feedback on this 1946 S possible inverted S Ball Serif

The mintmark doesn't appear to be in the right place, nor does it exhibit the same character of the known die where the MM was entered in at an angle.

Is it a second die? It doesn't appear so, but the picture is too small to be certain.

For reference here is my example: 1946S-INVERTED (http://www.lincolncentresource.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3949&highlight=1946+inverted)

Where is the information about alignment and angle? The resource and trail dies do not mention this.

You should be able to tell from the pics where the MM is in relation to the date; and the angle of punching should also be apparent from photos (where the SE part of the S almost disappears). Hope that helps.

I haven't even started on my big bag of 1940's yet. I hoping to pull one from it.

I guess another question would be, Is it a Serif S or a Ball serif S. To me it's a ball serif which again, is the only information that is listed for it to be an inverted mm in the LCR and traildies.
Where is the other info that you are providing listed at, so I may look into it

It has an inverted ball-serif. You can read about it here:

Thank you on the conformation of a ball serif, I wasn't sure. The links you have provided do show mintmark styles which I have also looked at prior to posting.

Where is the info though that you have provided about alignment and angle?

The only position that the articles are related to, is that it is inverted. There is nothing about angle or alignment. Since it is a ball serif or confirmed ball serif. The ball is on the bottom, doesn't it relate to an inverted 1946 s mm.

Here is the MM position in relation to the date:

And here is the MM closeup. You should be able to tell that the mintmark, which was punched in, was not hammered in with the MM face parallel to the die. That is why the SE corner appears to fade away. In my thread (linked above) I shot some of the die markers that are present on a LDS specimen.

This looks more like the sans serif mintmark style to me, listed by Wiles as MMS-007 at http://varietyvista.com/San%20Francisco%20Mintmark%20Styles.htm. Other mintmark styles used for 1946 Lincoln cents include MMS-004 and MMS-006.

Please note that I am talking about the orginal coin posted and not the IMM immediately above.
