I have several of these which came out a roll that have a distinct circumfiral crack around the eye socket. It extend down the bridge of the nose and around the eye. The posting I have here is of three typical of the batch. Note that one of the coins appears to have a doubling of the eye-lid sort. Any ideas. Is this a new variety or what?

The eye socket area is not a place one would associate with die cracks...especially in the 60s. Whatever this is, it is pretty intereresting. These areas are all raised...right? I see machine doubling of the profile on the 3rd and 4th pics too.

All of the annomollies that I call out are raised. Due to the doubling in the eye (another form the same lot) and the die-cracks, I do not believe that it is simply MD. I do not know what to make of it, though. I hadn't seen it in my 10X optical loop, but wasn't looking for it either.

(just wait until I upload another strange one tonight. Still need to build figures.)

I never said that the die cracks were MD, but merely pointed out that I also saw some MD on the profile. I do believe the eye area may have some MD on it though, but it would take an in-hand examination to verify that. You mentioned numerous examples in the roll you are searching. Do all of these look exactly the same, or is there any variance from one to the other?

lol, no, really no varience aside from some dist of a surface scracth or two.
I understood your perception pertainig to the MD. I intend to submit specime for a hands on evaluation. You have much better equipment and the experince to evaluate it more redily than me.

Thanks
