View Full Version : Large Cent
Anyone familiar with them.. I'm trying to figure out if there should be a motto to the front of her face? It's a poor condition cent, but curious anyhow..

No motto...just some more stars. Don't tell me you found that in a roll. Maybe a roll of halves.
So what is with the letters to the front of her face? Isn't that supposed to be on the back?

It looks like it may have been damaged by another coin.

Yup.. Mike Diamond thinks the same.. It actually matches up perfect to the reverse of that coin.. The damage is the same on the reverse of that coin with a different pattern..I think the obverse..

my vote would be -
the letters are from a negative counterstamp
counterstamps are neat because it sometimes point to a specific person or place where the coins have been like a store advertising or a person like a doctor - i saw a coin book once that dealt only with counterstamps and the meaning behind them. anyone know anything else about counterstamps
