Hi,
Maybe you can explain what is this coin. Lincoln is more fat than other Lincoln penny i saw. There is a little chip between nose and mouth looking like a punch. Metal are more yellow too.
I asked question on another forum couple months ago but maybe you have an idea what it is.
Thanks.

I did a size comparesion on photoshop, and the D is larger in diameter then the P, as far as the color goes, two possibilities here, improper alloy mixture, or struck on a planchet for an another country, as the U.S. did strike coins for other countries. The only way to know for sure if it is something or not, is to weigh both the P and D, the normal weight for a copper cent is 3.110 grams......................... just a guess on my part.

1968 was the last year for a very worn master hub. The master design had been used for decades. A re-design was made in 1969. Most all 1968 coins I have seen had all of the design elements worn to a point where they touched the rim and seemed to have a mushy & fat appearance. I believe this to be a primary reason why you are seeing what you do.

I agree with Bob, what you're seeing is normal for 1968
Good observation. Most collectors do not know that the master hub was changed.
Did you know that the master hub will be changed again in 2010?

Hi,
I will buy a precision balance because i don't have it. Probably it is normal but i'm not 100% sure. I compared it with lot of 196? penny and Lincoln is always bigger than normal.
Thanks for your comments.
