Just curious about the rarity ranking:

http://www.lincolncentresource.com/wideams.html

I've only been made aware of two 1992-D close AM coins in the world. However, I've seen three 1998-S close AM's sold on ha.com and there's two on ebay right now. I would think the 1992-D is the rarer coin.

Please enlighten me.

1sgret has a 1992 D Closed AM. If you look in his albums he has a picture of it and says there are a total of 15 of them. I think there is only 3 1992 P Closed AM's

I have some information here (http://www.lincolncentresource.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6022) on the WAMs and CAMs as well.

As far as I understand the rarity from fewest examples to the most would be something like:
1992P CAM (2 examples; 1 NGC & 1 PCGS)
1992D CAM (maybe 10-15 examples)
1998S Proof CAM
1999S Proof CAM
1999P WAM
2000P WAM
1998P WAM

For what its worth,

I have found about 3 times as many 2000 Wides as 1998 wides, (over 30 vs a dozen or so). I have the impression the % varies around the country, but I'd be surprised if 2000 is scarcer than 1998 overall. Anybody have an accurate handle on that? I think the redbook has the 98 valued higher.

On the other hand, for some reason I see at least twice as many 2000 cents over all in my area(western CT.) vs 1998 anyway. I've been keeping track lately to see if I can get an approximate % over all of wide vs close. Still only one 99 after three years.

Maybe the 98S and 92D should be switched..but I'm not sure how many 98S's are out there. 92 is the rarest for sure.

Roger and Heide,King and princess of roll searchers. You rule!

Roger, I seem to recall, you took a while to get your first 99 Wide. Then there is no stopping you. I think I had mine first, but I'm still stuck on one.

Do you have any stats on how many close AMs you looked at for those three years?

1998P WAM

Now, I COMPLETELY agree with that assessment.

The 1998P and 2000P census is bizzare. For me, I've found a LOT more 1998P WAM's than I have the 2000. For others, it's the opposite. I'm on the fence with these!

I believe there are more '98 WAM dies thus far identified as opposed to '00 WAMs but I cannot recall where I read this information. Whenever it is determined which of the two has more dies, that information should trump any numbers found by collectors as I am sure there would be regional fluctuations on the number of each found.

There was a lucky collector who found a plethora of '00 WAMs (the number was in the 1000s) in a Mint bag and sold them all on eBay which, and it is just my opinion, why the price may have dropped and has yet to fully recover on the '00 WAMs.

Scientific approach....I like it!

First I've heard that ebay story, thanks.

I never kept track of my WAM finds but I don't think the total has been more than 25 or 30 over the years and I'm pretty sure the 98's were ahead. I still regret getting 4 sealed boxes of new 1998-Ps from the bank several years ago and didn't know about the WAM at the time. I went thru them all, pulled some errors, etc and put them all back in the bank. When I think of the couldashouldawouldas.

Just for informational purposes.

Bowers/Merena auction the 3rd 1992 Close "AM" was sold. The buyer is a member of this Forum.

https://secure.bowersandmerena.com/auctions/lot_detail.aspx?AuctionNo=13260&SessionNo=1&CatNo=295&SearchString=&VideoFlag=&zoom=1&lotno=136

iIf you take a look at the CONECA website, Ken Potter has an article there also on the sale and finds of the 1992 CAM's. 3 are known to date.

http://conecaonline.org/

Rarity for the 1992-D CAM and 1998-S CAM Proof, by my current information the 1992-D CAM is rarer than the 1998-S CAM.

Thanks for that! With only 3 coins known, that was a great deal for someone on the 1992 CLAM.
