I have been having a hard time photographing BU RPMs. But here is 1961D RPM that have split upper and lower serifs.

Greg, Black and Whites are hard to define, can you take these in color? If your only seeing split serifs then most likely, as Bob stated, "To Minor" A better pic would help Bob give you an Idea...
